Offline Play is coming to Seedr V2

Offline Play is a new Seedr V2 feature that lets you save a video to your device and watch it with no internet connection. It is rolling out gradually to Premium accounts. This post is a preview of what is landing, how to prepare, and what to expect during the rollout.

Quick facts before we start. It is V2 only. It requires Premium. It is in preview - some users will see it sooner than others.

Why we built this

People keep asking for the same scenario. Flight tomorrow. Long train ride. Subway with dead spots. A basement where the WiFi just dies. You have files in Seedr but no way to watch them when the connection disappears.

The workarounds today are ugly:

  • Download the file to your laptop or phone before you leave. Remember to do it. Pray you have storage.
  • Screen-record a stream. Quality tanks, audio drifts.
  • Use a separate media player and shuttle files into it manually.

Seedr's whole pitch is that your library lives in the cloud, ready to play. That pitch falls apart the moment you have no signal.

Offline Play closes that gap. Your library stays in the cloud. One tap marks a file to live on your device too. When the connection drops, playback keeps working.

What the preview includes

Mark a file for offline. We cache the full file on your device. You press play later with no internet needed.

The nice parts come along for the ride if you set them up before going offline:

  • Subtitles, including ones you pulled from OpenSubtitles.
  • Alternate audio tracks.
  • Playback speed control.

A few points worth being honest about:

  • This is a preview. Some rollout weirdness is expected.
  • Rollout is gradual. Not every Premium account sees it on day one.
  • We cache the full file. If storage is tight, drop to a lower resolution or keep only one episode at a time.
  • The subtitles UI is getting a cleaner pass alongside this - bigger tap targets, fewer decisions to make, readable type.

Before Offline Play: watch at home on WiFi, or don't watch. After: mark, cache, fly, play.

How to use it today

Once the feature reaches your account:

  1. Install the Seedr PWA on your phone or tablet (Account - Install App). This is not strictly required but makes the offline flow smoother.
  2. Open the file you want to take with you.
  3. Use the file menu and pick Save for offline.
  4. Wait for the save to finish.
  5. Set up subtitles and audio track before you lose signal if you want them available offline.
  6. When you are ready, switch to airplane mode and press play.

If you do not see the Save for offline option yet, you are still in the rollout queue. Give it a few days.

To free space later: open Manage offline, pick files to remove. Originals stay safely in your cloud.

What is next

  • Faster initial caching for very large files.
  • A clearer offline library view on mobile - one place to see everything you have saved locally.
  • Subtitle UI refresh ships alongside general availability.
  • iOS-specific behaviour around PWA installs is still being tuned.

Offline rollout is preview quality. If you hit anything weird, send us your device, OS, and browser so we can track it. Real-world reports make the fix faster.

Wrap

Offline Play means your Seedr library stops caring about your signal. Mark a file, fly, watch. Subs and alt audio come with you if you prep them in advance.

You need both V2 access and a Premium plan. Premium accounts typically get V2 within about a week.
