Seedr supports playback up to 2160p (4K UHD) on v2 with Master and Gold plans. That's four times the resolution of 1080p — every detail visible, text razor-sharp, colors vivid. Combined with our built-in player's adaptive bitrate technology, you get the highest quality your connection can handle without buffering. Streaming.

How It Works
Seedr converts videos to HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) — same tech as Netflix and YouTube. Video streams in your browser without downloading the full file first.
Instant start: Click play, video starts in seconds
Adaptive bitrate: Quality adjusts to your connection speed
Seek anywhere: Jump to any point without buffering the whole file
Resume (v2): Pick up where you left off, even on different device
You can stream a 50GB 4K file without downloading it — you only fetch the segments you actually watch.
Chromecast
Cast from Seedr to your TV:
Start playing video in Seedr
Tap cast icon
Select your Chromecast
Video moves to TV
Your phone/laptop becomes the remote — play, pause, seek, adjust volume, change quality.
Supported Devices
Chromecast Ultra: Full 2160p support
Chromecast with Google TV (4K): Full 2160p support
Chromecast (3rd gen): Up to 1080p
Android TV / Google TV: Built-in cast, quality depends on device
Smart TVs with Chromecast built-in: Varies by TV model
If your Chromecast doesn't support 4K, you'll get the highest quality it can handle.
Media Server Integration
Connect Seedr to your existing media server:
Plex: Mount via WebDAV, Plex scans and serves to all your devices
Jellyfin: Same WebDAV integration, open-source
Roku: Dedicated Seedr channel
Why Use a Media Server?
Media servers like Plex add features Seedr's built-in player doesn't have: automatic metadata fetching, poster art, watched status tracking across devices, and apps for every platform. Seedr provides the storage and bandwidth; Plex provides the interface. Plex setup guide →
Format Support
Containers: MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM, FLV, WMV, M4V, MPEG, 3GP. MKV with embedded subtitles works.
Video Codecs: H.264, H.265 (HEVC), VP8, VP9, AV1, MPEG-4, MPEG-2. Common codecs play natively; rare ones get transcoded.
Audio: AAC, MP3, AC3, DTS (converted), FLAC, Opus. Multi-channel preserved where possible.
Subtitles: SRT, VTT, and embedded MKV subs. Timing adjustment if they're out of sync.
What About Unsupported Formats?
If a file uses a codec your browser can't play natively, Seedr transcodes it automatically. This adds a few seconds of processing time on first play. Once transcoded, subsequent plays are instant. Full format details →

1080p | ~3 GB |
4K | ~10-15 GB |
Sizes vary based on content complexity. Action scenes compress less efficiently than static scenes.
